Salawat: How Imam Sadiq Taught Us to Send Salawat

Hawzah News Agency- Bakr ibn Mohammad said:

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ) يَقُولُ وَقَدْ قَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِهِ: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ): لَا، وَلَكِنْ قُلْ: كَأَفْضَلِ مَا صَلَّيْتَ وَبَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ.

I heard Abu Abdullah [Imam Sadiq] (pbuh) saying, when one of his companions had said: “O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim.” So Abu Abdullah (pbuh) said:

“No, but rather say: ‘Just as the best of what You have sent of blessings and benedictions upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.’”
